Dan Reuter of rural Mapleton, Minnesota demonstrated the techniques of hot-air ballooning to kids of St. Clair Elementary School on Friday morning, February 11th. Reuter and other hot-air balloon pilots gave rides at Minnesota Lake, Saturday Feb. 12th and Sunday Feb. 13th 2000 to benefit the Cystinosis Foundation. Two of the Reuter's children have the rare genetic disease that affects the kidneys. Balloon rides were offered at 8am and 3pm on Saturday, and 8am on Sunday. Six other balloonists, all members of the Minnesota Ballooning Association showed up at Minnesota Lake to participate in the event. The suggested per person donation for a one-hour balloon ride was $150, and the fund raiser raised about $1700 for the fourndation. What an outstanding event it was, and hope that it will become an annual event.
