The Dear Jean,
It is with much sadness that I'm writing to tell you that our son David Brink passed away.
David was 30 years old. He passed away just 15 days away from his 31st birthday.
Our other son, Bill, also has cystinosis and just celebrated his 33rd birthday.
Bill was 4 and Dave was 2 when diagnosed with cystinosis. My husband and I tried to raise our boys as normal as possible with this disease.
Dave learned to fish at an early age. He had a transplant at the age 17. He became an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He went away to college to study Fish and Wildlife Management. After graduating from college he went to work at Dick's Sporting Good in the Hunting Lodge. There he was able to share his knowledge about the outdoors and the importance of having respect for it.
He touched many people's lives. He would want to be remembered as a determined conservationist who loved the outdoors and all living things.
With the help of Hospice, David died the way he wanted; not in a hospital, but at home with his mother, father, brother Bill, and his dog Annie, on Easter Sunday, April 24th.
Our Love to the Cystinosis Community.
Sincerely, Joyce & Will Brink
